ArtFest at the MAC starts this Friday



The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture's annual ArtFest is this weekend, Friday May 31 through Sunday, June 2 in Coeur d'Alene Park in Browne's Addition. See over 150 artists offering ceramics, fiber arts, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography and digital art, leather art, metalwork and woodwork for sale. This is the Museum's 34th Annual ArtFest, Spokane's largest juried art fair. It's a three-day celebration of art, music and food and an Inland Northwest tradition for the entire family. Admission is free.

New device at Summit Cancer Centers prevents hair loss in chemo patients



Summit Cancer Centers, at 13424 East Mission in Spokane Valley has implemented a new device to help prevent hair loss in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments. The Paxman Scalp Cooling System, reduces the patient's scalp temperature immediately before, during and after a chemotherapy treatment. The cooling reduces blood flow to hair follicles, which helps to prevent or minimize the hair loss.

Vanessa Behan Benefit Luncheon is June 4



Vanessa's Promise Benefit luncheon will be held Tuesday, June 4 from noon-1pm at the Davenport Grand Hotel. Doors open at 11:15am and the program will begin at noon. At this free event, you will learn more about the impact Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery has on our community and what you can do to help keep children safe and strengthen families. The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery improves the lives of children by providing immediate refuge and safety and ongoing family support in an environment of unconditional love.

While it is free to attend the event, there will be an opportunity to support the Nursery during the lunch. The cost of the luncheon will be covered by generous sponsors, so every dollar raised at the event will go directly to supporting the mission of the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery. Valleyfest 30th Anniversary celebration and raffle breakfast June 12



This year, ValleyFest is celebrating its 30th year, and they are kicking things off with an anniversary celebration and raffle breakfast on Wednesday, June 12, 7:30am at Mirabeau Point Park Hotel. This special fundraising event will help raise funds in support of Valleyfest. Over 40,000 visitors of all ages come to Valleyfest's fun filled community festival, to be held this year on Friday through Sunday, September 20-22.

Tickets are $75 per person or a table of 8 for $550. If you're unable to attend, you can still support Valleyfest with a donation. Manito Spring Plant Sale this Saturday

The Friends of Manito Annual Spring Plant sale is this Saturday, June 1 in the parking lot just east of the Gaiser Conservatory in Manito Park. There will be a huge selection of perennials, shrubs, vines, ornamental grasses, vines, houseplants, and much more. Sale hours are 8am-3pm. Friends of Manito members receive a 10% discount at the sale.

Papa Murphy's acquired by Canadian firm



Montreal-based MTY Food Group Inc. has acquired Vancouver, Washington-based Papa Murphy's Holdings Inc., the franchisor and operator of the largest Take 'n' Bake pizza brand in the United States, currently operating over 1,400 franchised and corporate-owned stores in 37 U.S. states, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.

There are 11 Papa Murphy's locations in the Spokane area.


Axe throwing arena opens in Spokane



Heber Hatchets, which is 'Utah's #1 axe throwing experience' with their headquarters in Heber City, Utah, has opened their first Washington location in Spokane in at 2015 N. Division. They offer an axe throwing arena where customers throw an axe towards targets set at the end of designated lanes much like a shooting range. According to KXLY, the venue offers a variety of 'lumberjack games', involving throwing an axe at a wooden target to stick it and score points. Heber Hatchets provides training on proper ax throwing technique to guests. All ages are welcome, but Heber Hatchets recommends throwers be ages eleven and older. All participants must sign a waiver, those younger than 18 must their parent or guardian sign it. Heber Hatchets requires guests to wear closed-toed shoes. The venue does not serve or allow alcohol, but guests can bring food. Guests can book events such as birthday parties, corporate events, and bachelor/bachelorette parties.

Rodda Paint opens in temporary location after devastating fire

After a devastating fire completely destroyed the Rodda Paint Store located in the Spokane Valley at 6818 E. Sprague Avenue, Rodda Paint has announced the re-opening of its new, 8800-square-foot Spokane Valley location at 409 N. Thierman Road. Store hours at the new location will be Monday through Friday, 7am-6pm and Saturday, 8am-4pm.

The cause of the fire at the 6818 E. Sprague location is still under investigation and there are no current plans for Rodda Paint to rebuild or move back to that location.
