Happy 70th White Christmas!

KTRW-AM630 and Nostalgia Magazine Celebrate 'Best' Song. The best-selling single of all time (with more than 100 million copies sold worldwide) turns 70 this year. KTRW-AM630/Spokane Old Time Radio and Nostalgia Magazine are celebrating with a half-hour radio show.

'White Christmas at 70' will air four times: December 19th @ 11:30am; December 22nd @ 8:00am & 3:00pm; December 26th @ 11:30am; and December 29th @ 8:00am. The program will also be available as a podcast on and after December 19th on the Nostalgia Magazine website: nostalgiamagazine.net.

Local interviews include: Bill Stimson, President of the Bing Crosby Theater Advocates; Stephanie Plowman, Special Collections Librarian at Gonzaga University; Leslie Ann Grove, local musician - who sings the verse most people have never heard. The program will also include an interview with Robert Bader of Bing Crosby Enterprises in Los Angeles who shares Bing's favorite duet of the song with Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald - never released on record - and the newest duet of the song with Bing Crosby and Michael Buble - recorded just this year.

The program is sponsored by the Good Samaritan Society of Spokane and Nostalgia Magazine.

Bing Crosby recorded 'White Christmas,' backed by the Ken Darby Singers and the John Scott Trotter Orchestra, in 18-minutes in 1942. It won the Academy Award for Best Song in 1943. Songwriter Irving Berlin declared it "the best song that anybody's ever written!"

Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign coming to a close

There's only one week left for The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign. Donations are low this year and because of that, Captain Kyle Smith is set to attempt another world record for bell ringing. He'll be competing with Miss Spokane, Kenzi Novell, for the world record attempt. Both will be at the Walmart Northpointe (9212 North Colton Street, Spokane) at competing doors. Also, competing against Captain Kyle and Miss Spokane will be Marcus Riccelli, incoming State Representative from the 3rd Legislative District. Riccelli will be at the Shadle Walmart (2301 W Wellesley Ave., Spokane). And Avista CEO, Scott Morris, will be helping Captain Smith, with some of his own bell ringing.

The Last Man Standing - World Record Attempt will begin at 5am on Thursday, December 20th. If anyone makes the full 60 hours it would end at 5pm on Saturday, December 22nd.

The community is encouraged to come out and support Captain Smith, Miss Spokane, Marcus Riccelli and others during this long and often tedious attempt.

The Salvation Army Red Kettles will be at 60 area locations through December 24th. This is the Salvation Army's largest fundraiser with this year's goal of $400,000 but they are down by more than $150,000. The donations go to support all of the Salvation Army programs throughout the year.
